EVERY CREATIVE DESIGN CAN BE ENGINEERED — BMW Alpha
If a great white shark can inspire someone who wants to design a motorcycle, the phrase “the sky is the limit” takes on the type of power that transcends earth and sea, along with the sky and space. When an elite designer Mehmet Erdem from Istanbul, and an old school world class motorcycle machinist Mark Atkinson from Utah coordinate together to bring to life a project most people would sneer at. An application of timing and footwork shows the world what an unlikely alliance can do, despite many obstacles and immense doubt.
Inspired by the movie “The World’s Fastest Indian (2005)”, this designer was motivated to test the limits of his abilities. He took the most infamous of all marine predators, mimicking the anatomy of the shark for aerodynamics, clean, yet complicated in front, and added a dash of ugly in the back for power symbolizing the tail. Voila! He did state though, “The rider must be the connection between beauty and the beast.”
Meanwhile, the bike builder Atkinson, needed a winter project and was drawn to, and became obsessed with, the Alpha’s sleek concept renderings, wondering how he might turn that into a functioning motorcycle. Because of some communication difficulties early on, he was forced into creative areas unfamiliar. After many frustrations and setbacks, communication with the designer resumed and was full speed ahead. The inside engine, the outside nose and gills, were finished with the help and suggestions of many friends and associates, among them a friend that worked on the wings of a Boeing 777.
Sometimes the very thing that holds most people back, can lead few others to success beyond even what they may be able to imagine. Pushing the limits of what is ordinarily done and what you believe you are capable of, can often result in your own intense satisfaction and for others, great enjoyment. Seeing past the mundane and usual standard is where you find many successful people who were able to penetrate the boundaries and walls made not to protect but restrain.
Suffice it to say, opening one’s mind and encouraging others to support our efforts, by them observing our diligence may be the very necessary attitude needed to show others what can be achieved if we allow our visual power and creativity, room to breathe freely and circulate to newer heights. Maybe it’s our work and timing that help create opportunities, not the other way around, as the ladder can most often be thought. These two men and their differences, which are clearly outlined in the source links below, are proof of where we come from is never as important as what we are and what we do.
