Indie Reviewer: What if I Hate the Sound of My Singing Voice?

If you're here reading this, it's either because you like to read my blog and saw this posted on Facebook, or you found it through a search engine and you really can't stand the sound of your singing voice. Well, I hope that after reading this. You just might feel a little differently about your voice.

The truth is: Most people hate the sound of their voice in general. And the reason for that is: when we listen to a recording of our voice we are actually hearing what others hear. It doesn't sound like us, TO US, because we hear ourselves in surround sound when we speak. Mostly because voice is actually coming out of YOU. You hear more than just the outward sound, you hear the air passing your vocal cords. However, this goes for everyone... In fact, that means everyone is a little "tone-deaf" when it comes to our singing. You will always sound better in your head than the sound that actually travels outwardly.

The interesting thing about singing though, is that anyone has the ability to do it... The key is to understand that you're not wanting singing to become a job. You want to put yourself in the song! And even if you sound like a choking frog gasping to let out a "croak!" I can promise that, no matter how good your singing voice becomes, there will always be room for improvement. And that is not meant to be discouraging. It just means, even professional singers have to work on their voice.

Anyways, Fel, the "voice finder" has some interesting tips in the video above on how you can come to grips with loving your voice now and what can be done to improve. Let's take advice from Alan Cummings... Sing like you Speak. You don't strain your throat when you speak, you are using your tongue and cheeks to form words and sounds. And if someone doesn't like your singing, just remember that if you put yourself in your singing... You're going to improve ever more naturally.
